The MHA Summer Institute has opened registration for its 2nd year!
This year the MHASI will be held at Fort Berthold Community College in New Town, ND, July 20th – 31st, 2015. FBCC is the home of MHASI from now on.
Well-trained teachers have a direct impact on how much Native language is successfully taught in the classroom, and on improved test scores.
The 2015 MHASI offers two key courses for Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara language teachers:
- Second-language teaching methodologies
These courses are essential to teachers’ effective classroom instruction. Studying linguistics gives teachers a grasp of sentence patterns and grammar – A way to see the language while still being inside it as you speak.
Then, the second-language teaching methods help teachers communicate what they know to their students. Physically involving games and activities work speaking and listening practice into the body.
Teachers have the option to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Fort Berthold Community College as part of their professional development through MHASI.
MHASI is not just for teachers – it’s for anyone who wants to learn one of the Three Affiliated Tribes’ languages.
Your presence builds MHASI into a community event that reaches the heart of each culture – the language.
Particular course schedules at MHASI are customized to each participant, depending on their previous training. You can choose one of the two customized schedule options.
Registration, as always, is FREE. (There is a fee charged for CEUs through FBCC.)
Details and registration forms are found through the MHA Language Initiative, online.
If you need to register by mail, download and print this form.
See you in July!
