Grants
Grants Program (in Development)
The Language Conservancy
supports the survival of endangered languages through grants for research and advocacy programs. These grants, when available, will be amounts from $1,000 to $5,000. Support will go to research and preservation work by linguists, language education programs at the grassroots level, and civic projects to integrate an endangered language into public spaces.
Best Practices For Teaching And Promoting Indigenous Languages
The following Best Practices standards were developed in 2004 by a consortium of Lakota Tribal leaders and academic professionals, to bring about revitalization of the Lakota language.
This consortium is now the Board and staff of the Language Conservancy. The result is a comprehensive system for language revitalization, comprised of five major parts that are clearly defined, measurable, and interdependent.
Grassroots Storytelling
Rising Voices will also be a web portal for Native people
to share their own self-made media to tell of their experiences or dreams of learning their heritage language. It will be possible for these media works to be incorporated into the 30-minute short films, where appropriate.
