Indigenous Language Support Programs
TLC supports real efforts to revitalize language in Native American communities. Our effort and language-program partners are award-winning recognized leaders in their fields. We utilize only best-practice solutions in our work to bring languages back from the brink.
The Language Conservancy is focused on supporting tribal and indigenous language programs that seek to develop and maintain sustainable solutions to language endangerment. For most languages this means promoting a sustainable long-term language infrastructure one that honors and utilizes speakers, while actively promoting the creation of new speakers.
TLC provides support to develop and enhance teacher-training programs, create literatures, teaching materials, audio/visual media, dictionaries, and computer-based learning aids.
TheRising Voices Documentaryproject is one the many ways that TLC helps tell the story of young people re-learning their indigenous language for personal and professional reasons.
The Language Conservancy works hard to get the word out on the crisis affecting Native American languages and about the amazing efforts underway in communities across North America and world to save and revitalize indigenous languages.
We help to educate the public about this work and about the important reasons to preserve these languages for generations to come.
